Ag Classes Offered
Intro to Ag. Science
Introduction to Agri-science will develop knowledge and skills that provide a foundation for understanding the industry of agriculture in a global society. The course will provide knowledge and skills
in the areas of animal science, plant and soil science, ornamental horticulture, forestry, and natural resources, agricultural
business management, and agri-science.
Ag. Biology
Agricultural Biology courses apply biological principles and understanding to plant and animal science in order to produce or refine agricultural products. Course topics typically include but are not limited to microbiology, genetics, growth and reproduction, the structural basis of function in living systems, the chemistry of living systems, quantitative problem-solving, and data acquisition and display
Ag. Science
This year-long course is designed for college-bound students
with an interest in agriculture. The lab-based course is designed for the students to analyze elements of life science, earth science, and physical science with agricultural applications. Students will be able to evaluate the interconnectedness of all levels of science in agriculture.
Floral
This year-long Ag./F.F.A. course includes the following: Floral Design will introduce basic floral skills to students and they will be designing 2-D and 3-D floral arrangements. Students are introduced to the elements and principles of visual art design such as line, shape/form, color, balance, and emphasis using a series of floral-based projects
to explore the connections, relations, and applications of visual arts design.
Ag. Mechanics 1
In this year-long course, the student will develop welding
skills in SMAW, GMAW, and Oxy-Fuel. Along with additional shop safety and communication skills. Introduction to woodworking skills, along with basic electricity. With the introduction of CDE teams relevant to the class.
Ag. Mechanics 2
This year-long course will build on skills learned in Intro to Ag. Mech. by
incorporating welding skills with ability to read and draw basic plans to build items, with metal. TIG welding will beintroduced to students. While giving students the opportunity to be involved in FFA.
Ag. Mechanics 3
This year-long course will build on skills learned in Intro to Ag. Mechanics with emphasis on woodworking and finishing. This course provides students with an opportunity to be involved in FFA.
Ag. Mechanics 4
This year-long course will build on skills learned in Ag. Mechanics 2. Students will be encouraged to challenge themselves with more complex projects, causing higher thought and more involved planning. This course provides students with an opportunity to be involved in FFA.
Ag. Buisness
In this course, we will discuss and investigate the true cost of doing business. This will include how to calculate what an hourly employee really costs the business owner. Calculating turns of inventory and figuring profit margins. We will discuss how various industries are related and can affect your business. The importance of sound
record-keeping and financial management.
Ag. Leadership
This class is designed to discuss leadership and careers. We will look at the skills necessary to be a leader, how to work as a team, manage people, and many career-related things as well. Topics will include team-building exercises, personality profiles, career interest profiling, parliamentary procedure, and specific leadership qualities, with
others to be developed from student interest. This class will be highly project-oriented and will include writing assignments, team and individual projects, and journals. FFA Banquet, Meetings, and other FFA Events will be an integral part of the course.
CDE/LDE Teams
Citrus Judging
​The Citrus Contest seeks to effectively prepare students for the expectations of the citrus industry. Workers seeking a career in the citrus industry must develop a high degree of knowledge and skill in industry standards as well as critical thinking, oral communication, and plant biology. The knowledge gained from this contest can also be applied to general fruit production.
Cotton Judging
​The Cotton contest seeks to effectively prepare the students for the expectation of the cotton industry. Workers seeking careers in cotton must not only develop a high degree of knowledge and skill, they must also develop the ability to solve difficult problems. This contest blends critical thinking, mathematical, and plant biology knowledge and skills along with the ability to express oneself through oral communication. The knowledge gained from this contest can also be applied to general crop production.
Dairy Products Judging
To enhance learning activities related to milk quality, federal milk marketing, attributes of milk products and substitutes for them. The focus of this Career Development Event is on achievement of high quality raw milk, federal milk marketing orders and attributes of selected products of milk.
Dairy Cattle Judging
The purpose of the Dairy Cattle Judging Career Development Event (CDE) is to provide students with new insights into dairy science by evaluating and ranking dairy cattle based on breed characteristics, confirmation, and performance.
Light Horse Judging
The purpose of the Light Horse Judging Career Development Event (CDE) is to provide students with new insights into equine science by evaluating and ranking horses based on breed characteristics, confirmation and performance.
Farm Power
The contest shall be designed to test a student’s mechanical skills and abilities relating to power equipment used in agriculture and shall serve as a training forum for students interested in pursuing a career as an equipment technician.
Ag Mechanics
The agricultural mechanics event seeks to effectively prepare the students for the expectations of the agricultural mechanics’ workplace. Workers seeking careers in agricultural mechanics must not only develop a high degree of knowledge and skill they must also develop the ability to solve difficult problems. This event blends the testing of manipulative skills and knowledge required for careers in fabrication and construction.
Meats Judging
Meat judging is much more than just the determination of the quality and lean meat yield of a carcass or wholesale cut; the program serves as a training tool to develop young leaders in the meat and livestock industries.
Opening/Closing
The Opening and Closing Ceremony LDE event is designed to develop agricultural leadership by providing for FFA members participation in public speaking activities and stimulating interest in leadership and citizenship.
Creed Speaking
The FFA Creed outlines the organization’s beliefs regarding the agricultural industry, FFA membership and the value of citizenship and patriotism. The purpose of the Creed Speaking Career Development Event is to develop the public speaking abilities of 9th grade FFA members as well as develop their self-confidence and contribute to their advancement in the FFA degree program.
Job Interview
The Job Interview Career Development Event seeks to effectively prepare the students for the expectations of interviewing for available positions within the Agricultural Industry. Students seeking careers within the Agricultural Industry must not only develop a high degree of knowledge and skill; they must also develop the ability to interview through communication in both written and oral forms; and be able to complete a resume, cover letter and job application accurately.
Impromptu
The purpose of the Impromptu Public Speaking Career Development Event is to foster and develop the speaking abilities of FFA members as well as develop their self-confidence and contribute to their advancement in interpersonal skill attainment and leadership development. The intention of the Impromptu Contest is to offer a more realistic, practical speaking contest to better prepare our students for public statements, media coverage, and general questions about the FFA and Agriculture Industry. Students will develop the valuable speaking skills necessary to be professional, competent public representatives of the FFA Organization and Agriculture Industry.
Prepared Speaking
The purpose of the Prepared Public Speaking Career Development Event is to foster and develop the speaking abilities of FFA members as well as develop their self-confidence and contribute to their advancement in interpersonal skill attainment and leadership development.
Extemporaneous
The FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Career Development Event is designed to develop the ability of all FFA members to express themselves on a given agricultural subject without having prepared or rehearsed its content in advance. This gives the FFA members an opportunity to formulate their remarks for presentation in a very limited amount of time. The event requires students to think on their feet, state their case quickly and persuasively, and to be able to answer relevant questions based upon their presentation.
Best Informed Greenhand (BIG)
The objective of the Best Informed Greenhand contest is to understand the aims, purposes, history, and structure of the Local, State, and National FFA student organizations and know the opportunities it makes available as referenced in the current National FFA Manual and State Constitution. This contest is for freshmen members only.
Marketing Co/Ops
The Marketing event seeks to effectively prepare the students with the practices and operations of Agricultural Cooperatives. Workers seeking careers in cooperative marketing must not only develop a high degree of knowledge and skill they must also develop the ability to solve difficult problems. This event blends the testing of manipulative skills and knowledge required for careers in operations and marketing.
Farm Business Management
The Farm & Agribusiness Management CDE is designed to teach management skills and critical and analytical thinking. It encourages and fosters the education of students in business management.
